TV Wall Mounting Heights: How High Should Your TV Be?

There’s one question we hear more than any other:

“How high should I mount my TV?”

It sounds simple, but it’s one of the biggest factors in how your room feels—and functions.

Mount it too high, and you’re craning your neck during movie night. Too low, and the screen looks out of place. The ideal mounting height isn’t a one-size-fits-all. It depends on your room layout, furniture, viewing distance, and screen size.

Let’s break it down.

1. Start With Eye Level (Yes, Really)

A good rule of thumb? Your eyes should naturally fall about one-third of the way down the screen when seated.

For most people, that’s around 105mm – 115mm from the floor to the bottom of the TV.

But again—context matters.

2. What’s Under Your TV Matters

Your setup affects your mounting height. Here are our detailed guides based on different configurations:

TV + Freestanding Unit

TV + Floating Unit

TV Solo (no unit)

TV + Soundbar Combos

If you’re pairing a TV and soundbar—whether the soundbar is wall-mounted or sitting on a unit—we’ve written specific guides for that too:

3. Don’t Forget the Size of Your TV

The larger the screen, the higher the top of the TV will sit, even if the centre remains at eye level.

That’s why we calculate from the centre of the screen, not the top or bottom.

50-inch TV: Centre around 105–110cm

65-inch TV: Centre around 110–115cm

75-inch TV: Centre around 115–120cm

(Pro tip: If your couch is particularly low or high-backed, this may shift slightly.)

4. Consider the Viewing Distance

There’s a sweet spot between screen size and how far back you sit.

A rough guide:

Screen Size

Recommended Viewing Distance

50”

2.0 – 2.5 metres

65”

2.5 – 3.2 metres

75”

3.2 – 3.8 metres

If your couch is further back, you might be able to raise the TV slightly—without strain.

5. Design Isn’t Just Numbers

TV mounting height isn’t just about ergonomics—it’s about design.

It should align with other elements on the wall, balance the space, and complement your furniture. That’s why a professional eye makes all the difference.
